Melany grew up surrounded by examples of sacrifice, perseverance, and unconditional support. Her mother left her family in Mexico to build a better future for her children, while Melany’s older sisters became important guiding figures in her life. Their determination taught Melany to value every opportunity and inspired her to work toward a future that honors everything her family has done for her.

At Artesia High School, Melany challenged herself through medical pathway programs and college-level courses. These experiences introduced her to the healthcare system and helped confirm her desire to become a registered nurse. She understands that nursing requires discipline, compassion, and academic dedication, and she is prepared to bring each of those qualities to her college studies.

Melany also played softball from her freshman through junior year. The sport taught her teamwork and perseverance, particularly as she adapted to new expectations and learned to keep moving forward during difficult seasons. She later volunteered in support of her school’s football team and gained professional experience working as a temporary human resources employee.

Melany studies nursing at Cal State Long Beach. Her goal is to become the first person in her family to graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree and eventually work as a labor and delivery nurse. For Melany, earning her degree will represent both a personal achievement and a tribute to the family members whose sacrifices made her journey possible.
