Jacqueline entered Artesia High School as a quiet and reserved student who wanted to find a place where she could connect with others. She found that community in the marching band. Over four years, the program helped her develop confidence, strengthen her communication skills, and discover her ability to lead.

Through determination and hard work, Jacqueline became the band’s uniform manager and later its drum major. As drum major, she regularly provided direction to approximately 60 band members and worked with the leadership team to improve the program’s culture and performance. As uniform manager, she led a crew, kept equipment organized, and learned to solve unexpected problems calmly, especially during competitions.

Jacqueline’s commitment to music extended to advanced jazz band and winter guard. She received academic achievement honors in mathematics and performing arts, along with awards recognizing her contributions as a musician. She also supported first communion classes at her church, participated in UNICEF activities, and helped raise funds for students and her school’s music program.

These experiences transformed Jacqueline from a student who hesitated to speak up into a leader who works to encourage and uplift others. They also strengthened her commitment to fairness and service. Jacqueline is studying biology at UCI as she prepares for a career as a registered nurse. She hopes to provide every patient with compassionate and equitable care, regardless of their background or circumstances.
