Isis Hernandez
University of California, Santa Cruz
Isis brings focus, care, and quiet resilience to everything she takes on. At Artesia High School, she balanced AP courses, part-time work, and extracurriculars with a steady commitment to service. Her teachers describe her as composed and dependable—someone who follows through without needing to be asked. Whether supporting peers, leading younger students through church programs, or showing up for her team in band, Isis consistently led with purpose.
She worked evenings at a local ice cream shop, maintaining strong grades and staying involved in both marching and concert band. Even with a full schedule, she volunteered with her church’s confirmation program, helping younger students feel confident and supported as they found their own voice and direction.
It was in those moments—building trust, listening closely, and offering comfort—that Isis found clarity around her future. She plans to become a pediatric oncology nurse, drawn to a profession where science meets compassion, and where small gestures can mean everything to a family in crisis. Her path forward is shaped by experience, empathy, and a quiet confidence that continues to grow.
