Beatriz Beltran Gomez

California State University, Long Beach

Beatriz grew up facing challenges few her age experience. She lost her mother at nine and her father shortly after due to deportation. Raised by her older sister, she learned early on the importance of responsibility, patience, and showing up for others. These experiences shaped her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher who offers students a sense of safety and care.

At Artesia High School, Beatriz was known for her gentle leadership and steady work ethic. She served as treasurer of the Latino Culture Club, helped organize cultural events, and volunteered at her church. She also supported young students through the Migrant Education Program, where she gained hands-on experience tutoring and assisting in classrooms.

Her teachers describe her as reliable, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate. She quietly earns the trust of her peers and leads through example. Whether crafting piñatas for friends or guiding younger students through lessons, she brings joy and dedication to everything she does.

Beatriz will begin her studies in education at Cal State Long Beach this fall. She hopes to become the kind of teacher who helps students feel seen and supported. She is already well on her way.
